Yannis Markopoulos, composer of the soundtrack to the serial, and of the iconic theme song which is so well known, passed away on the 10th of June, at 84 years old.
A Cretan himself, he composed the soundtrack to Who Pays the Ferryman? with the full intention of using local instruments and you can clearly hear these throughout. The santouri used in the track The Sea makes it very special indeed.
